Before answering this perfectly, one would need to know your current level of geometric knowledge and what you hope to do with geometry. I will try to address all the possibilities. If you have zero exposure to geometry, I’m actually not sure what. Geometry Revisted is from a specific viewpoint: Visiting Elementary Geometry from the viewpoint of transformations. A snapshot of the backcover of Geometry Revisited: So you will miss out on some portions which are not covered by this book. Introduction to Geometry is an advanced book and presumes fairly high familiarity already.

His most recent books include The Oxford Companion to the History of Modern Science, The Sun in the Church: Cathedrals as Solar Observatories, and Geometry Civilized: History, Culture, Technique. The area of study known as the history of mathematics is primarily an investigation into the origin of discoveries in mathematics and, to a lesser extent, an investigation into the mathematical methods and notation of the the modern age and the worldwide spread of knowledge, written examples of new mathematical developments have come to light only in a few locales.

CHAPTER 1 ESSENTIALS OF GEOMETRY For thousands of years, civilized people have used mathematics to investigate sizes, shapes, and the rela-tionships among physical objects. Ancient Egyptians used geometry to solve many practical problems involving boundaries and land areas. The work of Greek scholars such as Thales, Eratosthenes, Pythagoras, and Euclid for . This bibliography, an expanded version of Geometry in Utopia (which appeared in Geometry's Future, COMAP, Arlington, ), adds a few new categories (including journals that have significant treatment of geometry) but more importantly fills in many old and newer sources.
