“Children nurtured in kindness learn the value of understanding. Children taught to be self-sufficient, to respect others, to value education and to build life up rather than to tear it down will become adults capable of leading us to a brighter future.   Intervention programs are needed to teach parents how to mediate early mathematical concepts to their young deaf children in the home. Children participating in such a program should be followed longitudinally to assess whether early intervention in this area has an impact on their later success during their formal school years.

Most deaf and hard-of-hearing children are born into hearing families and hearing communities. Since deafness and hearing loss affect a child's ability to communicate, and communication is necessary for socialization, you may worry that your child will have difficulties developing relationships with family members, making friends, and participating in social activities. A child's education can be greatly enhanced by their parents' involvement in the classroom and at home. Use these printables and articles to prepare for successful parent-teacher interactions during parent-teacher conferences, at an open house, and throughout the school year.

Teach the child the sounds of the letters first, then teach 'sounding out' the words from the letters.
